Since visiting Istanbul during the June election last year, I’ve been closely following developments in Turkey. I decided to make a podcast about the Turkish elections for SOAS Radio’s regional spotlight series. I got in touch with Hişyar Özsoy, an MP for the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), and Gamon McLellan, former head of the BBC’s Turkish service, who I interviewed along with Ben Platt, an American living in Istanbul. The three guests offered quite different interpretations of the June and November elections, and what these might mean for Turkey going forward.
